While other collaborators at POPse! talked, drank, ran roundtables and sampled the delights of the street food market outside our door, David Boyle quietly sat in the corner and produced this interesting, thoughtful and reflective review of what efficiency means. In this short report he looks at how far we have fallen through Alice’s looking glass. Rather than following the proverbial white rabbit, he argues that we should stop, think and do things really differently in order to:
- Make services more flexible
- Build services which also reduce demand
- Co-produce services to reach out and rebuild community.
- Make services human scale
More entertaining than the topic might first suggest – he asks what’s the difference between real and fake efficiency really is and how we get the first and unmask the second.
